Ansys HFSS Antenna Design

This course is designed for electronics engineers seeking to learn antenna fundamentals, harness Ansys HFSS for antenna design optimisation, and assess installed performance, allowing for issues to be identified earlier in the design process.

This one-day course combines lectures and guided workshops to take engineers with basic electronics understanding through the fundamentals of antenna and electromagnetic theory and demonstrate how Ansys HFSS can be used to quickly evaluate and optimise an antenna, antenna array, or installed antenna.

Agenda

1 day course with guided workshops:

Module 1 – Background of Antennas

A short lecture which introduces antenna theory, defines the main antenna parameters, and gives an overview of the different types of antennas.

Module 2 – Electromagnetic Theory

A deeper dive into antennas in the context of electromagnetic theory, starting with Maxwell’s equations, and moving on to the radiation mechanism of antennas,defining the far-field and near-field, and discussing impedance matching.

Module 3 – Antenna Design and Optimisation

A guided workshop on the antenna design process using Ansys HFSS, starting with the basics of using Ansys HFSS, accurate meshing techniques, post-processing, and utilising the inbuilt optimisation tools.

Module 4 – Antenna Arrays

Brief overview of the theory of antenna arrays, and then another guided workshop on the setup and simulation of antenna arrays using Ansys HFSS.

Module 5 – Installed Antennas

Finally, delegates learn how to analyse antenna performance in an installed setting in the final guided workshop, including electrically large simulation and physical optics.
